SACRAMENTO, CA (AUGUST 24, 2022) – Earlier today, President Joe Biden announced his plan to forgive billions of dollars in student loan debt. Candidate for State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Lance Christensen, released the following statement:

“Traditional education is failing to prepare our kids for the 21st-century workforce. The current student loan crisis is proof,” stated Christensen.

“This elitist move  impacts working families ranging from plumbers to farmers, school teachers, and small business owners who were responsible for their educational choices. It also ignores the sacrifice of so many who worked hard to pay off their student loans. It is unethical and unconstitutional.”

“California needs to do more to expand educational opportunities beginning in our elementary and secondary schools so that our children can better engage in a rigorous higher education system rather than pursue worthless degrees at an inflated price. We also need to better value careers that don’t require expensive degrees but begin with career technical education opportunities.”

“Our kids deserve more. Californians have been known for their innovation and should not stand for this level of failed leadership.”
